Winter adventures

I had my 2nd run this morning with my group at "Run Camp". The temperature read "zero" as I headed out the door at 7:15am. The cold temps did not take away the fun. After 5 miles I headed indoors quickly to thaw out.

The girls had two half days and no school on Friday this week. Nicole stayed after school both half days for DI and Daddy and Ashley went to lunch and a movie on Thursday. They saw "The Tooth Fairy".

Ashley swam by herself with no help for the first time at swim class on Thursday. The instructor was really pushing her this week and Ashley got a little scared but the instructor did not give in and made her work harder. As promised I have attached some pics of ice skating and swimming.

What's been going on?

No pictures today but I thought I had better write something as it has been a few weeks. My spare time has been a bit preoccupied for the past few weeks. As some of you already know I started reading the "Twilight" series books. To say I could not put them down would be an understatement. The house, laundry, and I am ashamed to admit, the family was a bit neglected during this reading marathon of mine!

The good news is that I have now finished all 4 books! This journey officially started when Nicole wanted to read them. I knew from a close friend and family that the first 2 books were OK for her but that the 3rd and 4th I would have to decide if it they were appropriate. After Nicole finished the 1st one I started reading and the rest is history.

For those of you wondering, she was allowed to read the 3rd book minus a few pages and will not be able to read the 4th until she is much older. We also watched the first movie 3 times! For those of you who like a good love story I would highly recommend these books! I was really surprised that I enjoyed them as much as I did as I am not into reading about Vampires.

We celebrated Chad's birthday this month. Happy Birthday Chad! We went out to dinner with the family on his birthday and went out on date night last night just the 2 of us. We went to a movie and dinner. It was nice to enjoy some quiet time with eachother. Chad visited his parents last weekend as his Mom is home from rehabilitation.. She is doing well and getting stronger every day.

The kids have been learning to ice skate on Gerard's ice rink in his back yard. I will post some pictures at a later date. Nicole was a natural. She was able to stand and skate as soon as she hit the ice and is getting better every time she is on the ice. Ashley is excited about the idea but lasts a short while and then skates with her boots on or enjoys playing in the snow with Morgan.

Nicole has been busy with school and DI(Destination Imagination). The simplest way to describe DI would be to say that this is a small group of kids all in 4th grade that have to work on a project that they choose as a team and compete against other kids from around the state. Their is a lot of teamwork involved and different challenges they must overcome to accomplish this. Her team meets 2 times a week for 2-3 hours at a time. She is really enjoying this experience! They have a fundraiser this week at school to raise money for DI and it is called "ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER". It runs pretty much like the game show and Nicole's age group with be on the panel.

Ashley began swim lessons two weeks ago and loves every minute of it! For those of you who are not aware, Ashley would not even get in the water a year ago without fear. It took weeks of private lessons to get help her through this and I have to say I dreaded swim class week after week for a long time. It is so refreshing to see her confident in the water and enjoying herself! I will take some pics at next week's class and post them soon.

I joined a running camp that began this past Saturday that will last for the next 13 weeks. A large group of runners meets every Saturday and run in preparation for a 1/2 marathon on week 14. I am finally going to run a half and am excited to have this opportunity to stay motivated to run during the cold months.

That is all for now. I will post some pictures soon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year to all our family and friends! Chad and I continue to feel blessed each and every day. As I look back on the past year I am so proud to be a part of this family! With the economy touching the lives of many people dear to our hearts and us as well, we continue to realize what really matters in this world we live in...our family and friends! Both girls have been excelling in school and sports! Watching the growth that has occurred from them both this past year has been exciting to see. Thanks to all of our family and friends for your love and support over the past year. This past year would not have been the same without each and every one of you.

This past week was full of fun! The girls have enjoyed their vacation from school and have used every minute to the fullest. We celebrated Christmas with the Martin side of the family and on New Year's Eve we celebrated with a party at our house with some friends. Enjoy the pics below from New Year's Eve and other moments during the past week.
